I am the managing member of The Law Offices of Brett Border PLLC in Southfield, Michigan specializing in Chapter 7, Chapter 13, and Chapter 11 bankruptcy matters. I completed my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Criminology from Eastern Michigan University. In 2003, I earned my Juris Doctor Degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.

In law school, I received the Oral Advocate Award in the Intraschool Moot Court competition. Additionally, I was given the opportunity to intern at the Sixty Plus Law Clinic in Lansing.

In 2003, I was licensed to practice law in the state of Michigan and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. I was then licensed by the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in 2008, and the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Michigan the following year.

To further my knowledge, I have attended and completed workshops organized by the ABI Central States every year since 2009, and the Veterans’ Day seminars since 2008. Moreover, I have attended workshops on trial practice, appeals, as well as Chapters 11 and 13 practice.

Career Highlights

Practicing consumer and bankruptcy law since 2003, I have been able to represent thousands of debtors, creditors, and the Chapter 13 trustee Tammy L. Terry. I have handled every type of bankruptcy matter including trials and appeals at the district court and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Aside from being a practicing lawyer, I have taught Introduction to Bankruptcy at Madonna University. I have also served as editor of the Consumer Bankruptcy Newsletter for the American Bankruptcy Institute.

My other work included serving on the committee for mortgage modification for the Eastern District of Michigan. In addition, I became a mortgage modification panel member at the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) Conference. I also took part in the planning committee for the Veterans’ Day seminar at the same organization.

Currently, I am a sitting board member of the Consumer Bankruptcy Association.

Personal Background

My hobbies include running. As a father of two, I greatly enjoy spending time with my son and daughter.
